Sky Is The Limit

My teacher used to say, think big, sky is the limit. There are many more saying which i probably don't remember. And that's what i thought is being followed by everyone. Anyways few days ago i participated in a B-Plan competition to start a business funded by college. I, with a couple of my friend submitted a good B-Plan  which was something about uploading videos (of-course, not like YouTube) and ya, i forgot to mention before the competition, we had a seminar conducted by big entrepreneurs about how to proceed with your plans. Coming back, we were one of the 160 B-Plans submitted in that competition. We were extremely exited as we found out we were selected among top 30 teams!! Next round required detailed business plan, and fortunately, we made a good one and reached third round where we were required to present our business plan in front of a panes of judges (same ppl who took the seminar).

Initially, they were unable to understand our plan (obviously, every loser blames the judge and so, i have my reasons!) and when they finally did, they ended up telling us things like: "why do you want to create a website for this? you could easily make a facebook/youtube application for this and in the meantime you can earn a lot more and both you and facebook/youtube will be happy!!!"

After this line, i was like WHAT THE HELL!! are they the same people who told us that day to think big??? lol  I just don't get it. Why do they want us to become a subset of facebook? Why is it that believing in a brand new and unique project is feared by most of the experienced investors? First they tell us to think big and then when we do they abruptly stop us. Rightly said by Mr. Bill Gates that successful people start getting an illusion that they can't be defeated. And this is why they deteriorate.
